JOB TITLE: Community Connector

Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Community Connector will perform Community Connector duties and activities defined by the Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) in grant solicitation 3400001611, section C.7, contribute to community partnership building activities, participate in community engagement at the Harbison Early Education & Community Center and assist with Early Birds and Smart Start in the Schools coordination.

Community Engagement
Provide support for community and family engagement and coordinate dissemination of resources to families

  • Provide support and participate in meetings, coalitions and groups working on early childhood and health issues such as infant mortality, maternal and early childhood mental health, nutrition and physical activity, well-child visits, and be the liaison for these groups for SSCO
  • Connect community resources to one another to expand services or improve quality of services
  • Stay current on early childhood policy and the advocacy needs of our community and state
  • Participate in community events to disseminate information
  • Provide support for SSCO programming
  • Other duties as assigned

Data Collection, Evaluation and Reporting

  • Data entry and monthly reporting - codes, compiles and files correspondences, records, documents and reports according to an established system
  • Prepare grant reporting for contracts
  • Provide information for Community Needs Assessment as needed
  • Contribute to the preparation of grant proposals to state and federal sources
  • Other duties as assigned

Board Development

  • Provide staff support to a board committee


  • Office in Oklahoma County
  • Adhere to Oklahoma State Law for the reporting of child abuse and neglect
  • Comply with Smart Start Central Oklahoma’s tobacco-free workplace policy
  • Maintain confidentiality in accessing a web-based data system
  • Have experience working with a team or group to accomplish a goal
  • Have knowledge of the community/county and best practices related to early childhood, Strengthening Families Protective Factors and home visitation
  • Have the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing and to maintain productive working relationships with others
  • Good PC and software application skills
  • Fully competent and productive contributor with the ability to handle multiple tasks in a competent and professional manner

Other Requirements

  • Dependable transportation (regular travel to meetings required)
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Full-time position that requires some evening and weekend work


  • Have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in public health, social work, child development, community development, or a related field; Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Hav e experience and expertise with home visiting programs and/or early childhood as well as a strong connection to community services.
  • Have experience in a management or leadership position.
  • 5 or more years of experience in related field.

Smart Start Central Oklahoma accepts 1-2 interns per semester. Interns may be at the undergraduate or graduate level. If you are interested in applying for an unpaid internship, please submit your resume along with a cover letter that includes your school name, the number of hours required, your career goals, and why you are interested in interning with SSCO. We regularly welcome volunteers to help pack books and toys into Early Birds kits. Volunteers can be in small groups of 2-5 or larger groups up to 30. Volunteer opportunities are generally available in July, December, and February as we prepare for each new Early Birds season.
