Alesha: An Early Birds Success Story

November 18, 2021

Alesha was already striving to be a good mother to her three children when she first heard about Early Birds, a free program that equips parents and caregivers to serve as their child’s first and most influential teacher. Intrigued, Alesha signed up for an upcoming session.

"I liked the way the class was set up; it was easy for me to bring the entire family," she said. "I continued to return every season because I really liked the connections I was making with other parents, the teachers, and some of the directors.”

At every class, Alesha received a kit full of age-appropriate books, toys, games, and community resource information that she could take home and use to incorporate learning activities into daily life.

Best of all? Alesha felt supported as a parent.

"Early Birds is the best mix between mentorship, a support group, and group therapy. The advice and countless bits of wisdom I have received from the other parents, teachers, and staff members is priceless, and I cherished this opportunity!"

Caregivers and Parents like Alesha need our support to help their children thrive. Parenting is the most important job in the world, and it’s up to all of us to help Oklahoma’s children succeed.

Since 2003, Smart Start Central Oklahoma has equipped families to serve as their child’s first and most influential teacher through parenting classes and support. Now, more than ever, assisting parents and caregivers is crucial to the future success of Oklahoma’s children. Just $100 will give a child the Smart Start he or she deserves to begin kindergarten ready to learn. We hope you will partner with us to create a brighter future for more families.
